The top 5 rugby clubs in Kent

1-Blackheath Rugby

Club, as it’s famously known, is the oldest open club in the world and the best performing club in Kent. Founded in 1858, Blackheath play in the National League 1, the third tier division in England. The Club played a leading role in the foundation of the RFU in 1871 and is one of seven of the original twenty clubs that have survived to this day.

Today, they are getting some double-registered talented youngsters to play in their ranks through their link with Saracens but it seems like National League 1 is where they belong.

2-Canterbury RFC

Even if Westcombe Park are playing in a league above, Canterbury RFC are without a doubt a the second best club in Kent right now. After a poor season last year, which ended up in a relegation, they are flying high this year and are still unbeaten after 20 games in National League 3 London and South East and are set to get straight back in National League 2 South.
However, their geographical position from London or the rugby-mad counties makes it harder for them to recruit players which would mean that playing any higher than that seems to be a level just too high for them.

3-Westcombe Park RFC

Westcombe Park managed to avoid relegation last year after a hard fought victory in a relegation match against… Canterbury. However being bottom of the table and 12 points behind the first non-relegation place, the odds are against them to do the same this year.

This is a unique club in the fact that it control and runs a cricket, football, tenneis and table tennis club along with the Oprington Sports Club.

4-Tonbridge Juddians RFC

Tonbridge Juddians are maybe the rising Kent club at this moment in time after three consecutive promotions, which took them from London 3 South East to National League 3 London and South East in three seasons enjoying a record 52 games winning streak on the way.

The club was formed in 1999 by a merger between Tonbridge RFC and Old Juddians RFC and after a lot of investment off the pitch and despite the fact that another promotion seems out of reach this year, it wouldn’t be surprising to see TJRFC a league or two above in the upcoming years.

5-Gravesend RFC

Gravesend are where they belong in National League 3 London and South East after being promoted from London 1 South last year. They finished at the 6th place last season and are again in mid-table position this term.
They are the current holder of the Kent Cup after winning back-to-back competition over the last two years.
